SUAM BORDER POST READY FOR COMMISSIONING

The Government of Kenya is ushering in a new phase of regional integration with the completion of the Suam One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) along the Kenya–Uganda border in Trans Nzoia County.

During an inspection tour, PS Dr. Raymond Omollo confirmed the facility is ready for commissioning by the President. He was joined by PS Dr. Caroline Karugu (EAC Affairs), Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, and members of the Border Control and Operations Coordination Committee.

“The facility is ready for commissioning. We expect President William Ruto, together with his EAC counterparts, to officially launch it.”

The OSBP consolidates customs, immigration, and regulatory services under one roof and is supported by the upgraded 45km Kitale–Endebess–Suam road, streamlining trade flows to Uganda, South Sudan, and the DRC.

Additional plans include establishing Border Patrol Operation Bases, enhancing intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and strengthening bilateral commissioner engagements.

These measures will improve efficiency, combat illicit activities including drugs and counterfeit goods, and expand legitimate trade opportunities, positioning Suam as a key milestone in Kenya’s border modernization agenda.
