STRENGTHENING KENYA’S BORDER MANAGEMENT
As part of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to modernize border management, the government is in consultation with Canada to strengthen collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing surveillance and border security.
In this regard, Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary, Dr. Raymond Omollo, hosted the Canadian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Joshua Tabah, for high-level discussions on inter-agency cooperation and coordinated security operations.
The discussions focused on programmes supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), funded by the Government of Canada.
Key initiatives include promoting safe, orderly and humane migration, supporting the Ministry of Interior through improved border systems, training of frontline officers, and strengthening procedures at Points of Entry and Exit. UNODC complements these efforts by providing technical support to combat transnational crimes such as human trafficking, smuggling of migrants, and organized cross-border criminal activity.
