KENYA STRENGTHENS CYBERSECURITY LEADERSHIP
Kenya reaffirmed its leadership in continental cybersecurity efforts by hosting the Third African Forum on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence in Nairobi.
The forum, presided over by Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, brought together government officials, experts, development partners, and private sector representatives to discuss emerging cyber threats and gaps in digital investigation capacity.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Omollo noted that Africa is experiencing a surge in sophisticated, highly coordinated cyber-enabled crimes, with criminal networks exploiting legislative gaps, weak enforcement, and limited international collaboration.
“Our response must be coordinated, international and sustained. We must be able to strengthen our collective capacity to detect, deter and prosecute cyber threats while safeguarding the integrity of digital platforms across our borders.”
Dr. Omollo highlighted Kenya’s rapid digital transformation, now ranked among the ten fastest-growing digital economies globally, which has expanded opportunities but also increased vulnerability to cybercriminals. He emphasized the need for urgent reforms, enhanced interagency cooperation, and deeper international partnerships.
Kenya’s engagement signals government commitment to fostering a secure digital environment that protects citizens, supports innovation, and strengthens trust in technology across borders.
“As we conclude this forum, let us leave Nairobi with renewed commitment, deeper partnerships, and a shared blueprint for action.”
