KENYA AND GERMANY CHART NEW PATHS

Kenya and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across key areas of national development and security, reinforcing shared goals for sustainable development, inclusive growth and regional stability.

This followed a meeting in Nairobi where the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, hosted H.E. Stefan Groth, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kenya, Somalia and Seychelles, during a courtesy call.

The discussions explored emerging opportunities aligned to Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Key areas of emphasis included youth empowerment, labour mobility for skilled professionals, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, border and maritime security, disaster early warning systems, and capacity building in public administration and governance. A major takeway from the engagement was the shared commitment to protecting Kenyans seeking employment abroad, through a collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, by intensifying action against illegal recruitment agencies that exploit job seekers and undermine safe labour migration.

Dr. Omollo commended Germany for its continued support to Kenya’s national security and peace initiatives, noting ongoing programmes implemented by GIZ that build the capacity of peace actors, strengthen conflict transformation mechanisms, and actively engage youth and women in peacebuilding efforts across the North Eastern, Rift Valley, Coast and Nairobi regions.

The engagement marked a significant step in further deepening Kenya-Germany cooperation.
